the big claude down

With apologies to Nine Inch Nails.

It has been six months since my last update.

This was not intentional. Prior to this, I was attempting to maintain a cadence of one to two weeks, sometimes slipping to three, between updates.

Unfortunately, in early November, I received this email:

An email from Anthropic telling me that I had $250 in Claude Code credits to use within two weeks

And being the industrious individual that I am, I endeavoured to entirely drain those credits before time ran out. I ran myself ragged in dispatching work to Claude. I stayed up late, woke up early, and found myself acting as I imagine a CPU scheduler would. As a result, my personal projects saw the most productive two months of my life ever.

This was an effort so majestic that it itself took four months to document. It was also rather self-destructive, which is a topic for another day.

Don't try this at home.

two weeks go by, but not uneventfully

It has been over two weeks since my last update. I've worked on a few things, but not a lot: I realised that, after my last update, that I was running myself ragged, and I'd be better served by taking my foot off the pedal and taking things a bit more leisurely, so that's what I did. ups and downs and sides to sides

My pet project for the last week and a half has been to stay logged out of Discord, my primary social platform, through which I stay in touch with my friends, group chats, and niche news. The goal behind this was simple: I spend a lot of time talking to people on Discord, especially when I'm waiting on things to complete (long-running processes, AI agents, etc) or as junk-food-stimulation for when my brain simply refuses to shift out of neutral. Taking a break should, theoretically, force me to spend more time actually doing the things that I am supposed to be doing.

when you add an updates section and then don't use it for two months

As is usually the case, I find myself in a state of paralysis with regards to writing blog posts: whatever I write needs to be worthy of taking a prominent spot on my front page, which has prevented me from documenting the day-to-day out of a fear of banality. To counteract that, I have brought this section into existence for off-the-cuff updates that don't have to be held to the same standard.

Unfortunately, the work for this was complete over a month ago, and I've been holding off on merging it because I hadn't actually written an update: no amount of website tech can help you if the problem resides between the keyboard and the chair. To force myself to get a move on, here are some relatively succinct summaries of the plates I'm spinning at this moment.
